The Details

Mashable is looking for an energetic and enthusiastic reporter to cover technology news. The ideal candidate has 2-5 years of experience reporting on technology and a strong interest in tech, especially emerging innovations and consumer products.

A typical day for you involves reading the latest tech news and discussions on social media. You’ll write stories. You may find yourself editing a short script for the video team. You have a strong opinion on what's the best smartphone. Whenever there's a video about a new gadget or invention in your Facebook news feed, you stop and watch. You know what Hooli is. You're super-curious about the next big  thing in tech and love talking about digital trends, and you know how to make it interesting for "regular" people (i.e. non-techies). You know the difference between “less” and “fewer.” You have experience writing for a general audience and can write clean, compelling copy very quickly. And you're based in New York City.

The Day to Day

  • Writing several stories a day, in multiple formats, on multiple topics
  • Coordinating with team members, editors, writers, video teams, and illustrators on your stories
  • Staying engaged on social media networks
  • Other duties as determined by the Tech Editor

Must Haves

  • 2-5 years of experience writing and reporting about technology
  • Passionate about  digital culture and future tech
  • Ability to turn over clean, well-written copy on extremely tight deadlines, in multiple formats
  • Strong sense of visual storytelling
  • Multimedia skills: You understand the basics of shooting quality video and photos, and know how to make it look good even if you’re just using a phone
  • Enthusiasm for mobile storytelling tools, including (but not limited to) Instagram, Facebook Live, Snapchat, and the general "stories" format
  • Experience working for a website
  • Team player
  • Strong social media presence
