Mashable is seeking an editor to run its Australia edition and oversee all editorial operations in Australia. This is an opportunity to set the tone and agenda for a bureau that serves as an integral part of a global media company with over 90 million readers across multiple platforms.
The ideal candidate is a digital native with a natural passion for web culture, technology, and entertainment. A proven and creative journalist, s/he is an energetic self-starter and a natural leader with an established track record of innovation as an editor, reporter, or visual journalist. S/he has a wide scope of expertise, including familiarity with the stories that are most pertinent to the Mashable brand for both the local market and global audiences. S/he is able to quickly identify developing stories and shareable content.
The Australia editor will serve as the face of Mashable in Australia and will be expected to have a keen understanding of how news travels through social channels; s/he is an active and avid user of social media and is experienced in using these channels as a tool for growth. The ideal candidate enthusiastically embraces multimedia storytelling across a variety of platforms and has a proven ability to increase readership.
The candidate should be a self-starter who understands the needs of a growing digital media operation, is collaborative by nature, and works well with other journalists and editors. S/he will report to the deputy managing editor in Mashable’s West Coast bureau.
